Why This Course is Different
The Gi Manual doesn't dive into every possible detail about a niche area of jiu-jitsu.
Mind Map Learning System
Simplifies complex techniques into a visual framework. It seeks to add clarity and an understanding of the bigger picture. All while providing the essential techniques.
Digestible & Engaging
The manual is sprinkled with humor, concepts and the occassional story. It is also divided into managable lessons that you can complete & track your progress.
Structured Like A Real Match
The Gi Manual starts on the feet and ends with submissions, paying lots of attention to everything in between, especially playing and passing guard.
Integrated Bonuses
Comes with bonus courses, flowcharts, and e-books to ensure you learn from the lessons and use them.
Inside the Gi Manual
9 Chapters • Digestible structure • 6h 49m total length
Chapter 1: Stand Up (Takedowns)
Every match starts on the feet. Luckily, the author of this course has been a judo blackbelt since 2010. You can expect to learn some solid grip fighting, judo takedowns modified properly for jiu-jitsu and of course, safety tips to give you the confidence to stand with your opponents.
The chapter also covers wrestling, which is very fun with the added grips on the gi and pulling guard, a slightly-dishonorable, yet important way to start a match.
Chapter 2: Playing Guard
This chapter is divided into three parts:
- Closed Guard
- Half Guard, Half-Butterfly and Butterfly Guards
- Open Guards
You can expect an overview of the main open guards, of which there are many. The lapel guards get their own bonus course called Lapel Guard simplified.
Chapter 3: Passing Guard
The passing guard chapter follows the same three part structure as the playing guard chapter. Passing closed guard is an absolutely essential skill, half guard passing can make mount all but guaranteed. To tackle the open guards the chapter offers tools to use against them - such as knee cuts, leg drags, long steps etc. As well as some tips on how to pass specific guards.
Chapter 4: Turtle & Front Headlock
Turtle and front headlock are two sides of the same coin, so they share a chapter. These positions are often overlooked in jiu-jitsu, but they are common. You will learn key attacks and defences from both as well as how to transition between them.
Chapter 5: Side Pins
Most people only think about side control when they hear the words side pins. However, there are three positions that fall under this category and it's essential to know them all.
Chapter 6: Mount
Why do some mount positions feel inescapable and some feel like only a minor nuisance? This chapter simplifies mount and makes it easier for beginners to escape. It also shows the highest percentage paths to submissions.
Chapter 7: Back control
Taking the back is a sub-game in jiu-jitsu that has to be studied. If all roads lead to Rome, then all paths in jiu-jitsu lead to the back. How do you maintain it, which submissions should you do and how? You'll find out in this chapter.
Chapter 8: Chokes
The course covers chokes in pretty much all of the previous chapters, but this chapter does an overview and goes over essential chokes that haven't been mentioned up to this point.
Chapter 9: Joint locks
Similarly to chokes, this chapter goes over the joint locks that weren't mentioned in detail in the course.
It has 3 parts:
- shoulder locks
- armlocks
- leglocks
